Live Updates: Theophane V Murphy, Bayaar v Edwards

December 10, 2011

The length of the updates depends on how long I manage to stay awake for, hopefully will provide updates for both the Khan v Peterson fight and the Ashley Theophane fight!

Sky Sports have a Welterweight top ten with Vyacheslav Senchenko ahead of Mike Jones and Kell Brook. There pound for pound is also a bit random. Cotto ahead of Martinez. Both Klitschko brothers, Froch and Khan in the top ten. My year-end pound for pound should be up around Christmas!

Ashley Theophane v Ben Murphy
Ashley Theophane
is one of my favourite British boxers and is the British Light Welterweight champion. Willing to fight anyone he has wins over Delvin Rodriguez, Lenny Daws and DeMarcus Corley with a loss to Danny Garcia. His opponent Ben Murphy is really a lower weight fighter. He is the Southern Area Lightweight champion and fought in the Super-Featherweight Prizefighter. Theophane is 3 and a half inches taller and being a natural Light-Welterweight I think it will start close but Theophane will begin to dominate later in the fight perhaps forcing the stoppage.

Round 1: Murphy has come out really quick putting pressure on the bigger man pushing him up the ropes throwing hooks while Theophane covers up. Murphy warned for use of his head, using it to push Theophane.

Round 2: Murphy starts the second round in exactly the same way. Theophane throwing more punches this round. Murphy once again warned for use of head which seems to have opened up a swelling on Theophane’s head. Giving the round to Murphy for his work but Theophane kept this round close with cleaner work.

Round 3: Prizes for guessing how Murphy  has started the round! He is still coming forward with the hooks pushing Theophane on to the ropes. ‘Tap, tap, tap’ say Murphy’s corner and he duly obliges.

Round 4: Guess what, the fourth starts with Murphy  on the attack. Perhaps Theophane’s most active round with more movement and clean punches.

Round 5: Murphy straight on the attack again. I don’t think Theophane is happy with how this fight is going. He seemed to come back into the round as it went on but was caught with a left hook near the end.

Round 6: Sky sports have Murphy five rounds up which is probably a fair view to have. He’s back on the attack at the start of round 6. Theophane needs to start winning rounds, he isn’t known as having big punches. Another round to Theophane as he hits cleaner punches.

Round 7: Theophane landed good shots in the first minute of the round especially to the body. Murphy just keeps coming. Has Murphy ever thrown a jab, doesn’t seem like it’s even on his mind. It’s at a ratio of about 2 clean shots to Theophane while Murphy throws about 6 perhaps not landing.

Round 8: Murphy was cut at the end of that round. Theophane starts this round on top, although Murhpy just will not stop. Over the last two round Theophane has started to land body shots, not that they will have any effect, Murphy conditions his body with sticks.

Round 9: Round 9 and Murphy still rushes out of the blocks to back Theophane into the corner. Murphy just will not stop with these hooks and backing Theophane up. The cut near the right eye is looking rather bad.

Round 10: Class seems to be beginning to show. Theophane is landing a lot more with Murphy tiring. Quite a good prediction made earlier in hindsight although didn’t expect it to be this tough. Legs were gone for Murphy at end of round.

Round 11: In America I suspect Murphy’s aggression would mean he would probably be considered favourite, the lad hasn’t stopped coming forward! Theophane has backed Murphy up onto the ropes and the ref stops it. Makes my prediction look even better. Good fight. Great heart from Murphy! Murphy was winning on all three cards, by five, four and one. Theophane is a lucky boy!

Theophane 9 9 9 10 9 10 10 10 9 10     95
Murphy 10 10 10 9 10 9 9 9 10 9     95

Shinny Bayaar v Chris Edwards
A rematch for the British Flyweight title. The two first fought in 2010 with Bayaar winning a split decision.  Bayaar would lose the title to Paul Edwards who would then lose his title to Chris Edwards. Neither has a particularly brilliant record with Edwards being 16-14-3 while Bayaar is 15-6-2.

Round 1: Fast start from both fighters, neither getting a real advantage early on. Bayaar has a real bad cut underneath his eye. Edwards probably gets the round.

Round 2: Edwards starts the round landing cleaner shots to both the body and head. Body shots leave a thudding sound and Edwards is winning this round for me. Work rate combined with clean shots.

Round 3: Both landing good punches to start the first minute. Bayaar edging this for me with a minute remaining with some nice body shots

Round 4: Missed the first half of this round but the commentators said Edwards was on top of the round. He catches Bayaar with a few nice hooks at the end of the round.

Round 5: Edwards is looking too quick for Bayaar landing with lots of punches. Edwards is just dominant, outworking Bayaar.

Round 6: Doesn’t seem like Bayaar can do anything to change the way this fight is going. Think Bayaar won’t be seen again in a boxing ring. Looks old + slow tonight.

Round 7: Edwards dominates the round; not much change from anything I’ve mentioned previously.

Round 8: Edwards is relentless to the head and body. Low punch from Edwards near the end of the round but no points are taken. Bayaar’s face is a real mess.

Round 9: Edwards still on top. Bayaar does do better though.

Round 10: The Skysports commentators seem to be really enjoying this fight, I’m not! Edwards pushes on from the last round to take this one easily.

Round 11: Bayaar has come into this round over the last few rounds. Could give them to Bayaar and  I will give this one to him.

Round 12: Skysports have Edwards up by five rounds compared to my seven. Edwards is still working.

Official Decision: 116-113 117-112 117-112 to winner and still champion Chris Edwards!

Bayaar 9 9 10 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 10 9 110

Unfortunately I’m off for night. My eyes were going at the end of that fight and I won’t be able to stay awake for Khan I don’t feel. Will watch it in the morning, hoping for a brilliant Khan performance!
