Amir Khan: “I can’t see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather ever happening but me and Mayweather in 2012 is a real possibility” – By Dominic Sauboorah

Amir “King” Khan (26-1-0) stated how he can’t possibly see a way of Floyd “Money” Mayweather (42-0-0) fighting Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (54-3-2). The Bolton star said how the fight could generate around one hundred million dollars for each fighter, due to the fact that it would involve two of the biggest promotional teams in boxing which are Top Rank and Golden Boy. However Mayweather stated how Pacquiao had to take a drug test a week before the bout in order for the fight to happen and with Pacquiao not agreeing to this means that the fight isn’t likely to happen.

The WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion has business to take care of anyway before looking towards a potential face off with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan’s next opponent will be most likely his last opponent in the light-welterweight division; however it is also conceivably going to be his hardest opponent as he faces hard hitting Lamont Peterson (29-1-1). Peterson will be a real tough test of Khan who has fought the likes of Timothy Bradley, whereby he came close to beating him and Victor Ortiz, which ended in a fair draw. Many people believe that Amir Khan will blow Lamont Peterson away; nevertheless Amir Khan even said “we can’t over look Peterson.”

Style makes fights and I believe that the style of Amir Khan could really create problems for Floyd Mayweather Jr. The unified light-welterweight champion accused Mayweather of chickening out of a fight with him and stated how he wants to prove that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Floyd Mayweather Jr has proven in previous fights that he tends to struggle against quicker and taller opponents. In previous bouts we’ve seen Mayweather tear apart smaller fighters such as Ricky Hatton and Arturo Gatti. Nevertheless when he came up against Oscar De La Hoya and Victor Ortiz he struggled, mainly due to the fact that they managed to impose themselves on the unbeaten welterweight as they were both bigger than him. Amir Khan is taller and quicker than both Oscar De La Hoya and Victor Ortiz. Khan is a fighter that can punch from different angles, he’s considered the fastest puncher in his division and most importantly he has a lot of punching power. This is surprising considering he’s 5ft 10 so most people would presume that he lacks power at light-welterweight. So if Amir Khan was to the move up to welterweight chances are he is going to be even stronger and still just as fast, thereby giving Mayweather more problems.

Floyd Mayweather’s uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather accused Amir Khan of taking performance enhancing drugs and for the fight to happen between the two of them a drug test must be taken by Khan. Amir Khan wants to prove that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and I believe that he has got a better chance of ending Floyd Mayweather’s incredible unbeaten run than Manny Pacquiao. It could be the fight of the century, depending on if it happens.
